No Gallbladder, No Problem

Eavesdropping on a group of American exchange students sipping café con leche in Spain while planning a weekend getaway could drive away even the most hard of hearing. The oohing and aahing at possible destinations would get so loud that had I been overseeing, I’d likely be embarrassed for us. Yet the pure excitement was enough for us not to think twice about our noise level. And our excuse for every purchase was “we have to aprovechar.” Literally meaning to make good use of, the word aprovechar somehow gave us all permission to spend our dwindling euros all over Europe. While in Spain I had this feeling of urgency, not in the normal sense of the word but one that had me itching to take advantage of every moment I had left.
This feeling of urgency has returned. I thought college flew by, but the real world has proven to pass even quicker. It’s been two years since graduation, three months since being laid off, six months into 2011 and nearly half way through June. Time passes too quickly for comfort these days and I have a feeling that Autumn will be here before we know it. While Fall is my favorite time of year, there are just some activities that have a special allure in the summertime. Al fresco dining, warm evening walks, sunsets at 7:45pm…are all gifts of summer. So as soon as I adjust to a gallbladder free life and can get back to my city by the bay I fully intend to do some work on another bucket list of mine, My Summer Bucket List. Before the swift entrance of fall I’d like to aprovechar the long, sweater-free days of summer, with one less organ.

  1. Wow, what a fun list. BUT you must recover first, be 100% then stay unemployed so you can accomplish your wish list.
