“It is so easy to think that the world revolves around you, but all you have to do is stare up at the sky to realize it isn’t that way at all.” -Jodi Picoult
Feeling frustrated with my job search, I called my dad this afternoon. Upon hanging up the phone, I turned on news to hear that the famine in Somalia has worsened. According to a United Nations report, an immediate $1.4 billion is needed to stop the spread of hunger. Infants are being triaged in refugee camps because there isn’t enough food and medicine to go around. After days and weeks of walking to find help, mothers are leaving their children to die because they are starving and can no longer carry their children. 12.4 million people are hungry. On NBC’s Nightly News a mother said her baby had not eaten in two months. Do any of us know what it is like to feel hunger for more than two hours? What I find to be even more disturbing is that this crisis has been building for nearly four years. The world is just taking notice. Click here to help.
The Somali update quickly humbled me. It’s so easy to get caught up in our own problems and forget that there is a whole world out there with problems far greater than ours. I think it’s important to all do our part. So when I can’t give money, I send “prayers”. And if you don’t pray, send awareness. Stay up to date and spread the word. #prayersforsomalia
