The Essential Maternity Wardrobe

I’ve purchased embarrassingly little maternity clothes for my three pregnancies. When I do finally retire these items in a few months I’ll have spent ~30 months of my life wearing them, however, I just never saw the point in buying a ton of clothes I’d never wear again. I’m at the point where I want to burn all of these items I’ve worn so much, but the truth is, it’s still all in such good condition that I’m hoping to pass it all along to another mom-to-be. And that’s why you buy quality, neutral basics.

Let’s talk about some of my favorite brands and why I love them, especially for maternity.

Gap Pure Body Line – The softest cotton basics. Gap always has 40-50% off deals making it exceptionally affordable to stock up.

PAIGE Denim – These jeans are soft like butter. I wish my non-maternity PAIGE jeans were this comfortable. Before buying these I tried GAP and Madewell maternity and neither were nearly as comfortable. The fact that I could still wear jeans at 40 weeks pregnant says something about how amazing these are. They wash well and still look brand new after three pregnancies. Worth every single penny.

Michael Stars – I love bodycon dresses on pregnant women and the ruching on these dresses is super flattering.

Vuori – Not a maternity brand but I’ve been wearing this jumpsuit nonstop. It still fits at 30 weeks pregnant and will be a closet staple postpartum and beyond. I wish this brand was around during my first two pregnancies.

Other items to consider

  • I was given hand me downs of a few “essentials” that I’d also recommend buying. A basic zip-up hoodie sweatshirt, a couple GapFit maternity workout tops, and a pair of maternity leggings. All of these could be found at Gap or Old Navy.
  • Non maternity items that I’ve worn through all three pregnancies are Lululemon Align leggings, flowy maxi dresses, long duster sweaters/coats, and a long puffy coat (i.e. Patagonia or Northface).
