Welcome to the [new] blog!

It’s hard to believe it has been over two years since I was sitting in my apartment on Baker Street writing my first post on this blog. Through Aviator Sunglasses has been my diary and creative relief during the most challenging years of my life. I didn’t start publishing with any real goal in mind. It was as simple as I love to write and can type faster than I can pen.

Over the past two years I’ve found myself coming back to the same types of posts – opinions, food and life plans (often centering around travel). Nights when I’m not writing I find myself perusing recipes like it’s my second job. Weekends are spent anxiously trying new restaurants and recipes. On the nights I spent alone writing with a glass of wine I’d wonder if there were any commonalities between the paragraphs I wrote. It wasn’t until one night this Spring when I was rereading old posts that I realized my favorite is the common thread throughout the past 26 months. In The Art of Sitting Around the Table, I reflected on the integral part sharing meals has played in my life. Last Thanksgiving I wrote Thankful. It’s not hard to see that my most treasured memories in life are centered in the kitchen around the family table.

I have been fortunate to sit at tables in 15 countries with people from all walks of life. It sounds obvious but food is unifying. Years later the dinner you shared has the power to transport you to another time and place. There are still meals I drool over. State Bird, churros con chocolate in Spain, pretzels in Krakow, salmon with green onions on McBain Ave and Grandma’s gravy are just a few. Food is a way to connect and relive your favorites memories over and over.

So welcome to the new, to be continuously improved, Through Aviator Sunglasses. I hope you’ll return to see what I’m cooking in my kitchen and the memories I’m making at tables both near and far. Here is a preview…
