Led Me Here to This.

Completely and utterly happy at Stagecoach 2011

Fresh back from the best weekend at the Stagecoach and I am in a country-music-lyric-induced-haze. I have always loved country music. While the cynic might hear these songs and think they are cheesy, I listen and hear optimism. So many of the songs I heard this weekend are pertinent to life and living well.

“While you siting ’round thinking ’bout what you can’t change and worrying about all the wrong things, time’s flying by, moving so fast, you better make it count ’cause you can’t get it back.” -Carrie Underwood

I’ve heard Carrie Underwood’s song, So Small countless times and I have always liked this quote. But now this lyric is written on a post it and hangs in plain sight on my mirror for me to read dozens of times a day. I need this reminder. It has been so easy to sit in my apartment in gloomy weather, thinking about being laid off and where my life will go from here. As the weather turns nice and I am drawn into the San Francisco sunshine, I need to remember that time flies, it absolutely flies. There is a whole world out there passing me by and it’s not waiting for me to predict the future. I can’t spend one more day holed up in my apartment, regardless of how well decorated it is. I need to head out into the unknown and look at this time off as a blessing. I am choosing to look at it this way. That brings me to my next point…

“Thank God for all I missed, cause it led me here to this.” –Darius Rucker

I love this because it seems like since college, I’ve missed more than I’ve “hit.” Every failure and unattained plan led me here to the great unknown. I believe in dreaming. I absolutely believe in planning for your dreams and working toward them, however, you have to learn to bend and mold to the plans that are out of your control. The economy, failed business ventures and lay offs may be out of my control and yes they are terrible, but the bad is what makes the good that much better. And mark my words, I am determined to focus on that–being thankful for what I missed, cause it led me here to this. And this is a place of endless opportunity and possibility.
