“Nearly all the best things that came to me in life have been unexpected, unplanned by me.” –Carl Sandburg
On March 14, 2011 I was laid off. To say it was unexpected is a little bit of a white lie. I knew for days leading up that I would be one of the many in the second round of layoffs. It was a sinking ship and my role had become totally obsolete. What was unexpected was that a year ago today I received the best gift someone could give me–the opportunity to figure out what I really wanted to be doing. Because let’s face it, at 23 in a terrible economy, nobody is going to quit their job to have the time to find the right one. Maybe I’m not ballsy enough, but had I not been laid off, I would have stayed at said company for at least another year or left and gone to law school. Knowing what I know now, both would have been mistakes.
Happy One Year Happiness Anniversary to ME! I think I may just celebrate tonight with a cocktail.
