23 Lessons From 23

For some reason 24 sounds so much older than 23. Never in my life have I felt so different from one year to the next. Maybe it’s that with 24 comes your “mid-twenties” and you no longer have that “just-out-of-college” excuse card to play. While I am not sad to see 23 go I know it wasn’t all bad. I went on some incredible trips to Seattle, Spain, Vegas, Cabo and Tahoe. I made the big move to San Francisco. I made a home for myself here and learned some pretty important lessons doing it….

  1. We all live in excess.
  2. Drugstore beauty products work just as well as the expensive ones.
  3. Planning dinner is hard work. How did our moms do it every night for upwards of 18 years???
  4. It’s easy to get lost in plans but very difficult to live in the present…
  5. I know I should separate my laundry, but I don’t. Who has that many whites???
  6. Don’t apologize for what makes you laugh.
  7. I am proud and unapologetic about how much I miss my parents. And yes, they live just 50 miles south.
  8. A rainy day fund is absolutely, positively essential for all adults.
  9. Yoga is the only form of exercise I enjoy.
  10. I really don’t like chicken.
  11. Walgreens has automatic refills?!?! No more calling in and waiting on hold because I lose my prescription number.
  12. The checkers at Trader Joes automatically double bag because they assume if you are not “green enough” to bring your reusable shopping bags then you at least walked there. I’m 0 for 2.
  13. My 6th sense is a dirt spotter.
  14. You can learn a lot about someone based on how they act toward the waiter.
  15. You have to make a conscious effort to continue learning after college.
  16. Dressing for your body type is as essential as it is annoying. No Kendall, no matter how much you want to wear chiffon it clings to your birthing hips.
  17. Embrace and protect porcelain skin.
  18. Bringing ingredients to room temperature before baking makes all the difference.
  19. Life is all about timing.
  20. I love all music, seriously everything except Maroon 5.
  21. I can’t drink caffeine after 2:30PM. Old age sucks.
  22. Be exactly who you are. Show your true colors. Because anything less is a waste of your time and mine. And we don’t have time to waste.
  23. “Having a job is the new raise”
