I was sitting in the Employment Development Department yesterday, unnecessarily early for my “Job Search Advice Session”, when the receptionist asks me if I will need my appointment in English or Cantonese…ridiculous and hilarious at the same time. Nevertheless, unemployment is a lovely taxpayer benefit, though it covers little more than my overpriced rent check. I must admit that my recent stresses over money have made me think of shopping more than ever. It comes as no surprise that I am on a budget, so when I cannot shop I am grateful for some closet staples that I have worn for years and have yet to be sick of.
Some Staples Include…but definitely not limited to:
- My perfect black leather jacket that I bought at the Buffalo Exchange for $30. It was brand new when I found it and has broken into soft buttery delight. I feel instantly cooler when I put it on. It has been all over the world, literally.
- Hugo Boss camel boots at %80 off. Dunzo.
- Classic Ray Ban aviators, check. I’ve purchased other sunglasses since this pair, designer and F21, but I never feel like myself when I wear any other pair.
- OPI Big Apple Red–forever my perfect nail color.
- My Moroccan snake bracelet.
- And finally, pet Louie. Enough Said.
Buy things you WILL never get sick of, regardless of trends or time. Find pieces you love, pieces that are as exciting to put on 5 years later as they were they day you bought them. It’s like shopping in your closet. 😉 When you least expect it you can be thrown a curve ball and you will need those staples when you can’t afford to buy the trends.
